SOTUS OBJECT 2
SOTUS is the acronym of five concepts that represent the tradition Thai belief: Seniority, Order, Tradition, Unity, and Spirit. It is a common set of values that has been permanent part in tertiary educational institutions in Thailand for a long time. In an era where democracy is blooming, the practice is being called into questioned and reinterpreted. As the society is keenly debating about “the topic” once considered to be rigid taboo, there is no reason not to talk and rethink about the ritual as well.
The exhibition “SOTUS OBJECTS” tells a story about this ritual persisting in an arts institution, in order to revisit the wounded past and the effects that this authoritarian ritual, as manifestation of violation and oppression, have exerted on students.
